Matthew Perry reveals painful reason he hasn't watched Friends

While Friends has continued to set off giggles from every household during the ‘90s, it wasn’t the same for everyone.

Matthew Perry, who played the sitcom’s beloved character Chandler Bing, revealed that he is unable to watch Friends because of unpleasant memories attached to it due to his addiction.

In a recent interview with CBC, the 53-year-old actor noted that while he was “never wasted while working,” he was constantly hungover during the show, as well as off-air.

He went on to explain that he “can’t watch the show back” because he could “tell season by season” his addiction pattern and uncanny physical appearance due to substance use.

“I was taking 55 Vicodin a day, I weighed 128 lbs, I was on Friends getting watched by 30 million people — and that’s why I can’t watch the show, ‘cause I was brutally thin,” he said.

He continued: “I didn’t watch the show, and haven’t watched the show, because I could go, drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Perry emotionally called the ordeal “unfair” that the other five of his co-stars didn’t have to go through this disease.
