Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about feeling surprisingly grounded whenever she spends time in the United Kingdom.

The 23-year-old, who ranks among the world’s top selling artists, said London in particular gives her a sense of normal everyday living that she doesn’t often experience in the US.

Speaking to the BBC, she said, “I feel so normal here, very adult. I can walk to the pub and meet friends. It's a city where spontaneity is really encouraged.”

“People are very social here, in a way that they're not in Southern California.”

Moreover, she joked about adjusting to British weather habits, saying, “It wouldn't be a proper English summer without it.”

The Grammy winner also reflected on her approach to public life and attention, explaining that she no longer tries to be universally liked.

“I don't think my goal is to be liked by all. And when you de-centre that as the primary motivation, I think everything becomes a lot more joyful.”

She has also previously described London as a creative space where she feels most inspired, revealing she wrote much of her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love in the city.

“I’m the best version of myself when I'm there,” she said, adding that Manchester’s music legacy also influenced her creatively.
