Selena Gomez has taken to social media once again in an effort to clear the air amid online chatter surrounding her reaction to a high-profile NBA Finals night involving Taylor Swift.
The 33-year-old singer found herself at the centre of fan speculation after she briefly commented “lol” on a viral MTV post showing Swift celebrating courtside at the Madison Square Garden clash between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.
The moment, which quickly did the rounds online, sparked confusion among fans who read it as a possible dig at her long-time friend.
Now, Gomez appears to have responded directly via a fresh Instagram Story, addressing the frenzy head-on.
In the post, she insisted her earlier reaction was never intended as shade, explaining she was simply responding to the tone of the original upload and joking privately with friends at the time.
She also stressed that her comment was taken out of context and amplified by social media speculation.
“I would never insult my friends,” she reportedly wrote, adding that the reaction online had escalated far beyond what she meant.
She went on to clarify that the group chat she referenced in earlier posts was light-hearted, and that the basketball exchange between friends had been playful rather than hostile.
The Calm Down singer also touched on her absence from the game itself, reminding followers she has been tied up with filming commitments for Only Murders in the Building, which has recently shifted production to London.
Despite missing the courtside action, the songstress made it clear she was happy for everyone attending the game and had no ill feelings towards the events of the night.
