Lizzo has made a heartfelt confession about her childhood, admitting she once believed she was “very annoying” and struggled with insecurities that followed her well into adulthood.

The 38-year-old chart-topping singer revealed that growing up as the youngest member of her family left her feeling self-conscious, particularly when she was learning to play the flute.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Lizzo joked that being a beginner on the instrument wasn't exactly pleasant for those around her.

“I grew up feeling very annoying,” she admitted.

“Hearing someone be bad at the flute is a nightmare. And I was bad for at least two years.”

But the Grammy-winning star says she has finally begun to heal from those long-held fears and anxieties.

“I've had that anxiety shadow me my whole life,” she explained.

“I think I'm healing something in myself — in my inner child — that I didn't even realise I'm healing.”

The songstress also revealed she has developed a much thicker skin after years in the spotlight.

From internet memes to cruel online jokes, About Damn Time singer says she has seen it all.

“I've heard everything I could possibly hear about me, so nothing can bother me now,” she said.

Elsewhere, she reflected on her battle with depression, revealing that music became her lifeline during some of her darkest moments.

While working on her album Love in Real Life, there were days when simply making it through felt impossible.

Despite the challenges, the star credits music with helping her keep going.

And after years of worrying about offending people with her lyrics, she now has a simpler approach: speak her truth.

“Everybody's offended by everything today,” she said.

“Just say whatever you want to say.”
