Tom Hanks has revealed he and his Toy Story 5 co-stars were kept completely in the dark about Taylor Swift’s surprise soundtrack contribution.
The 69-year-old actor joked that studio bosses clearly “didn’t trust” them with the secret.
The Hollywood legend voices Woody in the franchise but had no idea Swift had recorded a track until the day it was released.
Speaking to E! News, Hanks said the news only reached the cast when the song dropped online, leaving them baffled by the secrecy.
“They said, ‘Tonight at nine o’clock Taylor Swift is going to be dropping the song that ends our movie.’”
the Forrest Gump star admitted he was baffled by the move, joking that there is a “brain trust” behind the franchise that keeps even its biggest stars out of the loop.
He added: “We know nothing until they tell us.”
He also reflected on returning alongside Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, saying the pair understood the “huge responsibility” of continuing the beloved franchise after realising its impact during Toy Story 2.
He said the role has always carried a special weight, especially when young fans recognise them instantly.
Despite voicing the two leads for five films, Hanks says he and Allen rarely record together, often only crossing paths in passing at the studio.
He said those moments when children realise who they are “change the air in the room”, and neither of them takes that lightly.
