Sigourney Weaver has admitted a Heartbreakers sequel simply would not feel the same without the stars who helped make the cult comedy such a hit.

The 76-year-old Hollywood icon revealed she cannot imagine revisiting the beloved 2001 romcom now that several key cast members have sadly passed away.

Speaking about the possibility of a follow-up, Weaver said the magic of the original film came from the chemistry of its unforgettable cast, and recreating that today would be impossible.

The Ghostbusters actress starred as glamorous con artist Angela Nardino alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt in the fan-favourite caper, which followed a mother-and-daughter duo scamming wealthy men to settle debts with the IRS.

But she confessed the deaths of co-stars Gene Hackman, Ray Liotta and Anne Bancroft have made the idea of a sequel too heartbreaking to consider.

“It’s one of my favourite movies,” Weaver said. “I can’t imagine not having our original team together.”

The Alien actress also spoke warmly about Jennifer Love Hewitt, saying she was touched the actress still remembers the film “with as much affection” as she does.

She added that she remains “very proud” of the comedy, which earned more than $57 million worldwide and has since become a cult classic.

Avatar actress also paid tribute once again to Liotta, who died in 2022, calling him “a true original” with “impeccable timing and wit”.

Weaver said the Goodfellas star brought effortless charm to every scene and was “just a doll to work with”.

The emotional comments come little more than a year after Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their Santa Fe home, bringing another sad chapter to the Heartbreakers legacy.
