Seth Rogen was left fighting back tears as his deeply personal new animated film Tangles premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
The 44-year-old funnyman admitted he “was crying a lot” during the emotional screening, revealing the powerful moment hit very differently on the big screen than it ever had at home.
The film, inspired by Tangles: A Story about Alzheimer's, My Mother and Me, explores the heartbreaking impact of Alzheimer’s disease on a family.
And while Seth had already watched the movie countless times during production, seeing it surrounded by an audience in Cannes proved overwhelming.
Speaking to People, the Superbad star confessed: “That was the first time I’d seen it not on my laptop computer with Lauren sitting beside me in our living room.”
The emotional project has reportedly been a labour of love for almost a decade, with The Studio star praising the audience reaction after the premiere.
“We’ve been working on it for like 10 years,” he said.
“To watch it with a big group of people is a very lovely feeling.”
The movie boasts a star-studded cast including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Pamela Adlon and Sarah Silverman, while author Sarah Leavitt admitted the screenings still leave everyone in floods of tears.
Away from the emotional premiere, Seth also reflected on the darker side of Hollywood, saying many studio executives are driven by “self-preservation” rather than creativity.
The Superbad actor, who now runs a production company with longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, revealed one executive once joked: “I got into this because I love movies and now it’s my job to ruin them.”
