David Letterman is one of the final guests on Stephen Colbert’s late night show before it is taken off the network on May 21.

The auto racing team owner was the predecessor to the show as host before the 62-year-old took over and the duo has now bonded over it’s end.

Following a list of prestigious guests such as Tom Hanks, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and former president Barack Obama the 79-year-old received a long standing ovation by The Late Show audience upon his entrance.

“Well, you know what happened backstage? I’m standing backstage, a guy comes over, he says he’s from CBS and he fires me. What is going on over there?! I have every right to be pissed off, so I’ll be pissed off here a little bit,” Letterman stated.

During the episode the comedian also encouraged Colbert to destroy the set, as they threw two chairs used for the seats off of the roof of the building to get back at the network.

This theater, you folks wouldn’t be in this theater if it weren’t for me, and Stephen wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for me, and we rebuilt this theater, and then Stephen came in, and look at this?...” he added.

Letterman also expressed concern for the other late-night hosts, wondering out loud what would happen to the Jimmy’s.
