Stephen Colbert marked his birthday with an unforgettable surprise on Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, as Tom Hanks arrived bearing an unusual collection of farewell gifts.
The Forrest Gump star first presented the host with CBS branded office paper, joking,
"Dude, you're moving on, and there is so much stuff to steal from the offices right now. They're never going to miss it."
He later returned with a box of dot matrix paper, telling The Late Show frontman,
"This is great paper that's always connected. It's not enough to have great paper. You need a tool with which to use that paper, and you're going to be doing some serious résumé writing and what have you."
With assistance from the “Hankettes,” the actor then gifted the birthday boy a vintage Underwood typewriter, alongside a bag of Hanks Coffee benefiting veterans.
During the appearance, the Oscar winning actor also reflected on memorable moments from his film career while promoting his History Channel documentary, World War II With Tom Hanks.
Interestingly, CBS previously confirmed that The Late Show franchise will conclude in May 2026, noting, "This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night."
