Seven-time Jeopardy! champion Dr. Courtney Shah has died at the age of 52
Beloved seven-time Jeopardy! champion Dr. Courtney Shah has died at the age of 52 following a battle with brain cancer.
Shah’s daughter, Maya Shah, announced the heartbreaking news in a post shared on CaringBridge, revealing that her mother passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026.
“My mom died today, at 4:57am on July 22, 2026, in the comfort of her home,” Maya wrote. “I don’t know what you believe about death, but I like to think that she’s at peace now. We loved her in this world, and we loved her out of this world, and we’ll go on loving her.”
In the emotional tribute, Maya also thanked the many fans who had supported her mother throughout her illness.
“Thank you for your grace in all of this,” she wrote. “It hasn’t been easy, it will continue not to be easy. Hug your loved ones. Tell stories about my mom. Light a candle, say a prayer, pour out a drink — find something that feels meaningful to you to honor the gift that was her presence.”
Shah’s family first revealed her diagnosis in February 2026, when Maya shared that her mother had been experiencing numbness and weakness on the left side of her face.
A month later, the family shared that Shah’s cancer was not responding to chemotherapy or radiation treatment. In a March update, they announced that she had made the decision to stop further treatment and enter hospice care.
In her final CaringBridge post before announcing her mother’s death, Maya described hospice as “comfort care,” saying the focus had shifted from treating the cancer to providing peace, quality of life and symptom relief.
