'Game of Thrones' star Lena Headey recalls chilling escape from Harvey Weinstein

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey has shared new details about a disturbing encounter with disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.

Speaking to Radio Times the actress recalled first meeting Weinstein while promoting The Brothers Grimm at the Venice Film Festival in 2005.

Headey said Weinstein tried to kiss her during a walk together but she rejected his advances.

"Harvey and I went for a walk, and he tried to kiss me," she said. "I told him to get lost."

According to Headey, Weinstein later sent her flowers and apologised for the incident.

However she said they crossed paths again around six months later during a breakfast meeting where Weinstein invited her to his hotel room under the pretense of discussing film scripts.

"We got in the lift, and when we got in, I just knew," Headey recalled. "My whole body shut down."

She said she made it clear she had no romantic interest in him telling Weinstein, "I think you're thinking I want more than friendship, and I have no interest in that."

Despite her response Headey said Weinstein escorted her to his hotel room but his key card repeatedly failed to unlock the door.

"He marched me, literally, to his room," she said. "But his key card didn't work."

After unsuccessfully trying to open the door Weinstein eventually took her back downstairs and allegedly warned her "Never say anything to anybody."

Headey said she left the hotel in tears. "I got in my car and just cried," she said, adding that Weinstein never offered her a role in any of his films afterwards.

"And I was also told to get my teeth straightened by Harvey Weinstein," she said.

Headey revisits themes of power imbalance and abuse in her new BBC Radio 4 comedy-drama series Intimacy which she wrote and directed.

Reflecting on the entertainment industry she said many positions of power remain dominated by men.

"A lot of men who don't love women end up in our industry," Headey said. "They now have power and now is the time to put us in our place. It's the patriarchy, isn't it?"
