The Marvel actress shares why David Jonsson's casting holds special meaning for her
Letitia Wright is celebrating David Jonsson's casting as the new T'Challa in Black Panther 3, calling the announcement a full circle moment.
In chat with Entertainment Weekly after Marvel's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the actress revealed the announcement was especially meaningful because of their personal connection.
She stated, “The news was really beautiful to hear because I have a personal connection to David. To see the full circle of that today, I’m still living in it. We’re both still checking in with each other about it.”
She also hinted at Shuri's relationship with the young T'Challa, suggesting fans will see her pass on valuable guidance in the upcoming film, adding,
“She now has that mantle to pass on, and [that] guidance and the wisdom. I’m going to have a really, really good time, a lot of fun — and I’m going to pick on him so much.”
Elsewhere in the interview with the publisher, Wright reflected on Shuri's journey throughout the MCU, saying the character has evolved from a gifted scientist supporting her brother to a strong leader who is now ready to guide her young nephew.
