Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce The Midnight Library, a fantasy drama based on Matt Haig’s bestselling novel, directed by Garth Davis.

The 30-year-old actress will play Nora Seed, a woman who finds herself in a mysterious library between life and death, where she is offered the chance to experience all the lives she could have lived.

The film, written by Laura Wade and Nick Payne, will be launched for sales at Cannes, with Matt Haig serving as executive producer.

It will go into pre-production in autumn ahead of filming in early 2027.

Garth says he's excited to reunite with Thunderbolts actress, praising her warmth and talent, calling the project a “celebration of life in all its possibility and complexity.”

Anna Marsh of Studiocanal added the film is a “love letter to life” with high emotional stakes, while Matt said he is delighted Nora’s story is in “safe and brilliant hands”.

Meanwhile Black Widow star has previously spoken about the pressures of being a woman on set, revealing she sometimes felt unable to challenge directors during emotionally draining scenes, but said a male co-star once stepped in to protect her during filming.

The adaptation is already being tipped as one of the most anticipated literary films in development, with fans eager to see Pugh bring Nora’s multi-life journey to the big screen.

Notably, production is expected to begin in early 2027.
