Colin Jost is opening up about his famous Pete Hegseth impressions during Saturday Night Live cold opens, and how he spoke one of them into existence.
The sketch comedy show cast member revealed that he had proposed a skit about the United States Secretary of War before it actually ended up happening in real life.
In his latest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the comedian told the host that they were pitching ideas for the cold opens in the writer’s room two months ago when it occurred.
“And I was like ‘Would it be funny if Hegseth just did that Bible verse that they have in Pulp Fiction?’…we talked about it and we were like that would be too ridiculous and it would take up all this time in the cold open…” Jost recalled.
“And then he for real did it like two weeks later! And I was like, ‘Well the good news is I’m being surveilled, so that’s a relief. It was crazy,” he added.
Notably, the Weekend Updates host eventually did ended up addressing the Pulp Fiction moment as Hesgseth in a SNL cold open after the fact.
