Jamie-Lynn Sigler has opened up about the heartbreaking pressure she faced while starring on hit mob drama The Sopranos.
The 44-year-old actress admitted that cruel comments about her looks left her feeling “less than” for years.
She played Meadow Soprano in the iconic HBO series but says life behind the scenes was far from glamorous.
Speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Jamie-Lynn revealed she was constantly judged over her appearance during the show’s run.
In one shocking moment, a caller on a live radio programme even claimed people were placing bets on how much weight she had gained between seasons.
Love Wrecked star said the criticism was “ruthless” and admitted she already felt insecure because she didn’t look like the ultra-thin stars dominating TV at the time.
Furthermore, she also explained that the relentless scrutiny badly affected her confidence and contributed to an eating disorder, which she discusses in her new memoir, And So It Is... A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope.
She confessed she dealt with many of her struggles alone because she “didn’t know how to ask for help”.
The Christmas Note actress also revealed she dramatically changed her appearance between filming the pilot and the rest of season one, losing 40 pounds and undergoing a nose job.
The transformation reportedly alarmed producers so much they even considered replacing her.
She recalled fearing she would be fired after bosses spoke to her mother about the changes.
Although she kept the role, Jamie-Lynn admitted the experience left lasting scars.
She said she spent much of the show feeling like a “problem” and undeserving of being part of such a massive success.
Now, years later, Beneath the Dark actress is finally speaking candidly about the painful side of fame.
