Goldie Hawn reflects on her decision for not marrying Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn recently revealed why she’s not tying the knot with longtime partner of over 40 years, Kurt Russell.

The Foul Play star was in conversation with Jonathan Haidt: The After-School Kindness Crew event at 92nd Street Y in New York City on May 5.

During the interview, the Oscar winner explained that she and Kurt “thought that by getting married that was actually going to take something from both of us that we didn't want”.

“We want to choose each other every day,” said the 80-year-old.

Goldie, who has been together with Kurt since 1983, valued the freedom as well as they felt together.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress pointed out that she “doesn’t like ownership”.

Goldie told ET, “I must say that I think Kurt feels the same way… I thought if I was a bird, and then someone put me in a cage, then they leave the door open, I'll never fly out. If they close the door on me, I'd probably get rid of all my feathers and become a bird with no feathers.”

The actress emphasises the importance of freedom in a relationship, and therefore “one of the areas where we all have to feel free to be who we are, and think the way we do, and for those of us who are, basically, want to have a happy life”

“I think you want to be happy with yourself,” added Goldie.
