Martin Short recently shares how his loved ones’ death has completely changed his life.
The Only Murders in the Building actor made appearance at the Netflix Is a Joke Presents: This Better Be Funny with David Letterman event at The Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles on May 7.
During this panel discourse, David asked Martin about his upcoming Netflix documentary movie, Marty, Life Is Short, where he said that the actor’s childhood really affected him.
“David told the Canadian actor and writer, “You came from a funny Irish Catholic family and then suddenly your brother died in a car accident. And then your mother got cancer. And then your father died. That’s an incredible amount of loss very early.”
To this, Martin replied that he was around 12 when his older brother David passed away first as the actor described him the “star of the family”.
Later, the actor’s mother was “diagnosed with cancer at older brother’s funeral and died three years later. My father died the year after that”.
Therefore, Martin noted that there was “definitely a period where life changed completely”.
The actor mentioned that he was just 12 when his brother died, while his mother and father, who was a steel executive, died before he was 21.
Meanwhile, Martin’s wife Dolman passed away in August 2010 from ovarian cancer. The pair shared three children, two sons Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36, and daughter Katherine, who died in February of this year.
