YNW Melly’s attorney has issued a statement regarding his retrial regarding the alleged murder of two of his friends YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser.
The rapper has been held in solitary confinement for three years following his arrest, with no access to family via phone or family visits, and has spent a total of seven years in prison over the 2018 deaths without a conviction.
In a statement shared on social media, the rapper’s legal team expressed their frustration over the unjust proceedings.
“The Court, the State Attorney’s Office, and all who observed this bond hearing should have been deeply troubled by the clear evidence presented regarding the inhumane conditions Mr. Demons has endured for over seven years, including the last three in solitary confinement, while still presumed innocent under our Constitution,” they began.
“Yet the Court denied bond and allowed those conditions to continue without even acknowledging the shocking circumstances under which he has been forced to live,” the legal team continued.
The defense team mentioned that they had not encountered such cruel treatement as their client Jamell Maurice Demons has endured.
They added that they had not come across such conditions in all their decades of experience with the law, and noted that their colleagues have also expressed disbelief and outrage.
