Adrian Grenier was all set to slip back into the world of The Devil Wears Prada for a cheeky cameo in the long-awaited sequel, but fans will now never see it, simply because “there wasn’t time”.

The 49-year-old actor, famously played Nate, the laid-back boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s Andrea Sachs in the 2006 hit.

While the sequel has reunited much of the original magic, director David Frankel has now revealed the Entourage star was almost part of the return too.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Frankel admitted, “I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.”

The filmmaker explained that the sequel wrapped filming barely a month before release, leaving no room for extra scenes to be squeezed in.

He stayed tight-lipped on what Nate would have actually done, adding with a grin, “No, I probably shouldn’t say.”

Grenier, however, didn’t take the snub too seriously.

In fact, he leaned into it with humour, popping up in a Starbucks advert that playfully referenced his absence from “a certain sequel”.

In the ad, he joked: “You might have seen the headlines — I wasn’t asked to be part of a certain sequel. But I’m good. Really. It’s all good energy.”

He even raised a toast to his old character, saying Nate “made a mean sandwich” but belonged firmly in the past.

Frankel loved the self-deprecating joke, calling it “funny and so self-effacing”.

Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney also filmed a cameo for the sequel as herself, but her brief appearance was ultimately cut in a “creative decision” as it didn’t fit the final edit.
