Anne Hathaway reflected on how she and her character Andy Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada has changed over the course of 20 years.
The 2006’s adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's novel is set for its live-action sequel with Hathaway, Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly), Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton), and Stanley Tucci (Nigel Kipling) reprising their iconic roles.
During its sequel premiere in London, the Princess Diaries star shared how her own evolution has mirrored Andy’s. "I think we're both more confident," she told the People magazine on the red carpet.
The Oscar winner added, "I think that 20 years ago Andy Sachs was really worried about getting it right and she really wanted to please her boss."
"And now," the mother of two continued, "I think that she wants to be herself. And I relate to that."
Andy in the original film starts off as an inexperienced journalism graduate who lands a job as the junior assistant to the powerful editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly.
She struggles to fit in the high-society and pressure of environment of the Runway magazine. Often underestimated and poorly dressed by industry standards, she left majorly overwhelmed by the impossible demands placed on her.
By the end Andy walks away from the toxic environment and reclaims her identity and career goals on her own terms, finally working on her way to become a journalist.
In the upcoming sequel, now as a journalist she reunites with Miranda changes in the modern fashion and journalism worlds.
In addition to the main four leads, the new cast members include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release on May 1.
