Hollywood’s most haunting on-set tragedy is heading back into the spotlight as Alec Baldwin faces yet another courtroom battle over the fatal Rust shooting.
The shocking incident in New Mexico in 2021 claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and left director Joel Souza injured after a revolver held by Baldwin discharged a live round.
While a criminal case against the star was dramatically thrown out in 2024 over claims key evidence had been withheld, the legal saga is far from over.
Now, a fresh civil lawsuit has been given the go-ahead, with Serge Svetnoy, a crew member on the ill-fated set, seeking justice.
He alleges the Hollywood heavyweight and the film’s production company caused him severe emotional distress through negligence.
In a ruling that keeps tensions high, Los Angeles judge Maurice Leiter stated that a jury could reasonably find Baldwin acted recklessly by pointing a gun with his finger on the trigger.
The bombshell decision clears the path for a dramatic trial showdown.
Baldwin, however, has consistently denied any wrongdoing, insisting he neither knew the gun contained live ammunition nor pulled the trigger.
Svetnoy’s legal team say they’re “pleased” the case is moving forward, with a jury trial now slated for October, unless both sides strike a last-minute deal.
The case had originally been pencilled in for May but was pushed back as settlement talks continue behind closed doors.
Even the judge has hinted at frustration over the drawn-out drama, warning the case cannot drag on forever.
