Pop sensation Tate McRae has lifted the lid on the darker side of fame, admitting her whirlwind rise has left her feeling “scary and overwhelming” at times.
The 22-year-old chart-topper, who has skyrocketed from dancer to global music star in just a few years, confessed that life in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems.
Speaking candidly to Billboard, Tate revealed she often feels picked apart under public scrutiny.
“As a woman, you’re constantly under a microscope,” she said, adding that the endless opinions can be tough to handle.
“It sucks to have people commenting on your body or who you are — especially when they’ve got it completely wrong.”
Despite her success, the greedy singer insists she’s not immune to criticism.
“Of course it affects me. I’m a girl. I have emotions, insecurities… it’s hard,” she admitted.
But rather than letting the noise define her, Tate is choosing to channel it into growth.
“With scrutiny comes clarity — it makes you double down on who you are.”
The exes hitmaker also made it clear she’s not interested in playing the fame game.
“Trying to explain yourself is a game I can never win. I’m just here to make art,” she said.
Tate’s journey hasn’t been accidental as after starting out as a dancer, she pivoted to music with a laser-focused vision, one that came to life with her debut album I Used to Think I Could Fly in 2022.
“I could see it all in my head,” she recalled.
“It was about finding the right people to bring it to life.”
