Johnny Somali is facing the repercussions of his actions in South Korea, with the American live streamer being held liable by their legal system after being banned from several platforms.
The content creator, whose real name is Ismael Ramsey Khalid, has been arrested and will be facing six months in prison with hard labor.
Seoul authorities barred the 25-year-old from leaving the country since 2024 and charged him for public nuisance after he posted a clip of himself kissing and performing lap dances on a statue representing World War II sex slaves.
A South Korean court has found him guilty on multiple accounts, including distributing sexual deepfakes and the formerly mentioned acts.
As per the country’s media "The defendant repeatedly committed crimes against unspecified members of the public to generate profit via YouTube and distributed the content in disregard of Korean law," noted the court.
They revealed that prosecutors sought three-years in jail time but Somali received a lesser sentence from judges because of the “absence of severe harm to victims,” as per reports.
Notably, the streamer has a history of being a public nuisance in other countries as well, but the South Korean statues hold a lot of significance and have been the cause of longstanding diplomatic tensions due to their symbolic meaning.
