Dax Shepard is preparing to share his most painful chapter yet, and he admits it hasn’t been easy.

The 51-year-old actor and host of the hit podcast Armchair Expert has revealed that his upcoming memoir will lay bare the details of the childhood abuse he first spoke about publicly back in 2020.

Speaking candidly on his show, Dax confessed that while he had grown “quite comfortable” saying he was molested, writing down the specifics for the book was an entirely different battle.

“Last year really the whole year was about, do I have the balls to write down the details of this?” he admitted.

“The details were always gonna be mine. I didn’t want anyone to be envisioning me. It’s weird that that was still some wall between my shame.”

The Hollywood star, who shares daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11, with wife Kristen Bell, said revisiting the trauma left him unexpectedly emotional.

He admitted that it took him around four months to finally put the story into words.

During that time, he found himself dealing with sudden waves of emotion and unexpected mood swings, often not realising at first that they were tied to revisiting those painful memories.

But finishing the manuscript brought relief.

He shared that something about it existing there feels like a lot of weight is off his shoulders.

Hit and Run actor has previously linked his childhood abuse to his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.

He once revealed that he felt his path towards addiction was almost inevitable after learning the statistics.
