Noel Gallagher paid a rousing tribute to brother Liam Gallagher as he scooped Songwriter of the Year at the BRIT Awards in Manchester on Saturday night.

The former Oasis star was honoured at the Co-Op Live Arena and made it clear he wasn’t standing there alone.

After being introduced by Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, Noel soaked up the home crowd atmosphere before shouting: “Yes, Manchester!”

“I’ve got to thank my brother,” he said warmly.

“And Bonehead, Guigsy and Andy and Gem. Without them I’d just be a singer-songwriter and nobody gives a s*** about singer-songwriters.”

Cheers quickly turned into playful division when lifelong Manchester City fan Noel was introduced by boss Pep Guardiola and couldn’t resist a rallying cry.

“Up the f****** blues,” he declared, much to the delight of City fans and the horror of the red half of the room.

The gong raised eyebrows as the 58-year-old singer hasn’t written a new track in two years, but he was unapologetic.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he joked: “I’m not sure how I’ve got away with that one, but I’ll take it.”

He said the figures prove he deserves the award, pointing to the huge number of records sold after Oasis reunited.

The Wonderwall singer also warned that if any big songwriting teams want to complain, he’s happy to meet them on the red carpet and settle it face to face.
