Lewis Capaldi has confessed to a deep, dark fear, and it’s lurking beneath the waves.

The 29-year-old chart-topper has revealed he suffers from thalassophobia, an intense fear of the ocean and the creatures swimming in it.

“I hate any sort of sea life – I don't think I’m offending any of them – I hate sea life in general,” he joked to the Daily Star

“I’m just scared of them. Usually I wouldn’t even get in the sea, but I’m doing it.”

The Someone You Loved singer has been bravely taking dips in the ocean while on tour in Australia, despite being utterly petrified of what might brush past his legs.

Lewis later discovered the waters were home to giant Groupers, enormous fish often dubbed the “Labradors of the sea”.

“I’m really glad I didn’t know that at the time. I really hate fish… but I swam, I was in the drink.”

The sea isn’t the only challenge Lewis is facing.

After making an emotional comeback at Glastonbury last summer following a break to focus on his mental health and manage his Tourette’s Syndrome, he’s admitted he’s hit a creative wall.

“I haven’t written a song since March,” he said. “I was finding myself in a bit of a creative rut.”

But with studio time booked, fans are hoping 2026 will see him conquer both his fears and the charts once again.
