‘Hamnet’: The most emotional movie of the year

Hamnet released in theatres on November 26 and is already being tipped for major Oscar categories.

The drama film is a period piece directed by acclaimed filmmaker Chloé Zhao who won previously won an Oscar for Nomadland in 2021.

The movie starring Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal and Joe Alwyn is being described by viewers as a tear-jerker.

One of the viewers left the cinema hall “sobbing” as he took to X to share his experiencing writing “Everyone left the HAMNET showing of Burbank 16 shellshocked and heavily sobbing."

It follows the fictional imagination of English playwright William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes losing their son Hamnet, who inspired the creation of Hamlet.

The movie has quickly became a frontrunner in major categories ahead of the award season approaching.

It has been nominated for 6 Golden Globe Awards alongside Sinners, Frankenstein and The Secret Agent.

In addition to the Oscar buzz, the the American Film Institute has listed it as the top ten movies of 2025.

The story dives into the sentiments of parents losing a young child which has been skillfully played by 12-year-old Jacobi Jupe.
