Prince Harry accused of using security review to ‘revive his royal brand’

Prince Harry has been branded “desperate” by a royal commentator amid claims that his latest move to review his UK security arrangements is less about safety, and more about reviving his royal image.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, recently requested a reassessment of his police protection during visits to Britain, despite losing a High Court battle in May to have his taxpayer-funded security reinstated.

A fresh Home Office review is now under way, with officials expected to determine next month whether Harry should automatically receive police protection when visiting the UK.

Kinsey Schofield, host of To Di for Daily, suggested the Duke’s actions are part of a broader effort to “resuscitate” his public image.

She said: “His goal is to project that brand and monetise it through books, television, or paid appearances. For years, he has leaned heavily into a victimhood narrative that audiences have largely rejected, and he seems eager to turn that around.”

“Actions speak louder than words, and Harry’s recent behaviour does not support the idea that he genuinely wants to return to the fold.”

Critics also pointed to Harry’s recent surprise appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he mocked US President Donald Trump and joked that America had “elected a king.”

Schofield said the appearance was a “misjudged attempt at a viral moment” that risked further complicating royal relations with the US president.

She added: “None of this sounds like a man eager to reconcile or work collaboratively with his family. It feels irresponsible.”

The expert also suggested resentment plays a role, with Harry frustrated at being treated differently to Prince William.

“Prince William has devoted his life to the crown. Harry walked away from that responsibility,” she said, adding: “The late Queen made it clear there is no half-in, half-out.”
