Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be facing a major change to their quiet life in Montecito after one of their most famous neighbours has sold a large portion of her estate.
Changes may be on the horizon after American media mogul Oprah Winfrey, a close friend and neighbour of the Sussexes, reportedly sold four acres of her sprawling estate for $17.2million.
According to local outlet Sightline Santa Barbara, the land Oprah sold was originally purchased in 2019 from actor Jeff Bridges. Bridges initially listed the property for just under $8million before later reducing the price to $7.5million.
Oprah is believed to have bought the home for around $6.85million, meaning she has made an estimated $10million profit over the past six years.
The sale could bring new development, or new neighbours, to the area, potentially altering the famously private environment Harry and Meghan have come to value.
Oprah has long been supportive of the Sussexes since their move to California, previously stating she was “100 per cent in support” of her Montecito neighbours.
She was also one of the high-profile guests at Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding at Windsor Castle, despite having never met Harry prior to the event.
It is believed Oprah first met Meghan through the US network CBS while visiting London, and the pair later formed a friendship.
Although Oprah had previously requested an interview with Meghan, the Duchess reportedly declined at the time, believing it was “not the right moment.”
