Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may still be living at Royal Lodge for now, but insiders suggest his eventual departure from the Windsor estate could be anything but straightforward.
The disgraced royal was formally served notice to vacate the 30-room mansion just weeks ago, following a long-running dispute over his continued residence at the Crown Estate property.
While Andrew is believed to have until October 2026 before he is legally required to hand back the keys, hopes that the move will happen quietly appear increasingly optimistic.
Sources claim that Andrew, who denies all allegations linked to the scandals that led to his removal from royal duties, is preparing to “haggle over every detail” of his exit, particularly where money and future accommodation are concerned.
A former royal courtier told the Daily Beast’s Royalist Substack: "Knowing Andrew, this was always going to be about money. Andrew is essentially being bought out of the lease, so he will haggle over every last detail of the deal."
Another source close to the 65-year-old echoed those sentiments, saying Andrew believes he deserves fair treatment given the home he is being asked to leave.
A friend told The Royalist: “He is giving up the lease on one of England’s finest houses and expects to be treated fairly.”
While Andrew has not publicly addressed the eviction, he has been seen horse-riding around the Windsor estate in recent weeks, appearing outwardly unbothered by the upheaval.
He has also remained silent on the future living arrangements of his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has lived alongside him at Royal Lodge since 2008.
