Why Meghan Markle can’t match Kate Middleton’s popularity

A PR expert has revealed the real reason Meghan Markle is treated so differently to Princess Kate and it all comes down to public perception.

Meghan, 44, and Prince Harry, 41, were recently pictured arriving arm-in-arm at Kris Jenner’s lavish James Bond–themed birthday party, a high-profile Hollywood event attended by some of the biggest names in entertainment.

The appearance, which took place during Remembrance weekend, quickly sparked debate, and according to PR expert Rhea Freeman, it highlighted the stark contrast between how Meghan is viewed compared to her sister-in-law.

The Duchess of Sussex also featured in a glossy Harper’s Bazaar interview just days later, prompting Freeman to question how differently the reaction might have been had Princess Catherine done the same.

Speaking to the Express, the PR expert said the contrast has little to do with fame, and everything to do with relatability.

She explained: “The recent cover shoot and the Kardashian/Jenner news attracted a lot of coverage and I often think it’s interesting that if Catherine had done the same thing, the story would be very different.”

Freeman went on to say that the Prince and Princess of Wales continue to grow in popularity because of how they present themselves publicly.

“The Prince and Princess of Wales continue to grow in the hearts of, well, everyone, and I feel that them both being more human and relatable in front of the camera and on outings has done this.”

She added that Kates openness over her recent cancer journey, along with Prince William’s visible support, has deepened the public’s emotional connection with the couple.

“With Catherine’s cancer journey, and William being open about this too, many people have warmed to them on a human level,” she said.

“Meghan and Harry, on the other hand, don’t seem to share their human side, which makes it a lot harder for people to feel a connection to them.”

“The Kardashian/Jenner post — it’s been widely reported that the couple asked for the image to be removed due to the timing,” she said.

“I don’t think this shows that Hollywood is dumping them — quite the opposite. The fact they were invited and attended such a big event argues the opposite point.”

She concluded by suggesting Meghan and Harry may be leaning fully into celebrity life in the US. “Maybe they’re fully leaning into the Hollywood side of life…”
