Meghan Markle, Prince Harry break silence on Australia’s decision

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have opened up about the bombshell decision taken by Australian government.

On Wednesday, Australia became the first country to ban social media for children under 16.

The news received mixed reactions when it was first announced, while some were against it, others believe it is a step in the right direction for the upbringing of kids.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been vocal about parenting and raising kids in the world of technological advancements.

The pair released a statement on the news through their Archewell Foundation.

“We celebrate Australia’s leadership for seeing and acting on how these technology companies are negatively impacting young people with little to no recourse or accountability, and feeble efforts from the companies to stem the flow of harms.” the statement read.

The couple called it a “bold, decisive” step which has been taken to “protect” children.

However, the couple argues that while it will “stop imminent harm”, it is not a long-term solution.

The statement concluded “We hope this ban is only the start of a reckoning between society and the tech companies that built these platforms with growth as their first principle instead of safety.”
