Prince Harrys security review reveals major shift with King Charles

Prince Harry’s push for a fresh review of his UK security arrangements has sparked new speculation about the true state of his relationship with King Charles, with insiders claiming the move could signal a subtle but meaningful warming between father and son.

The Duke of Sussex has privately written to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, asking for a full risk reassessment after years of insisting it was unsafe to bring Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet to Britain under the current arrangements.

Despite years of tension, a royal insider told the Daily Mail the fresh review might indicate an improvement in the once-fractured father–son dynamic: “This review could be a reflection of improved relations between the monarch and his son.”

They stressed, however, that the King has no direct role in security rulings: “There are representatives of the Royal Household on Ravec alongside police and Home Office officials.”

“So it’s possible that the courtiers on the committee have influenced the decision to order a review after the slight thawing of relations between the King and Harry.”

Harry and the King last saw each other in September 2025, marking their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months.

Their “private tea” at Clarence House lasted under an hour, but royal observers immediately noted the significance, and that the door to reconciliation wasn’t fully shut.

Still, earlier in the year, Harry blasted the original 2020 decision to downgrade his security, claiming there had been: “Interference by the Royal Household.”
