Guillermo del Toro has an interesting perspective towards death, specifically his own, and he is not shying away from talking about it.
The Frankenstein director has a number of grim, gothic, horror films under his belt so it is not surprising that he would have something to say about every living things’ ultimate demise.
During the Marrakech Film Festival, the Mexican filmmaker addressed festival attendees and asked them, “Why should you want to live longer?”
“I’m a big fan of death … I think death is really good. I’m certainly looking forward to it, because it’s the day you go, ‘Well, tomorrow I won’t have any problems,’” del Toro candidly added.
The Hellboy creator also talked about his deep, personal connection to Frankenstein, and how he feels postpartum depression now that his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s revolutionary novel is out.
“I’m Mexican, so emotion is big for me. I think emotion is very scarce right now. We have come to a point in civilization when emotion seems to be something you hide … We are in a horrible moment in which cynicism simulates intelligence,” del Toro added.
Notably, Frankenstein has not only received global streaming success but also critical acclaim and widespread praise.
The role of Victor Frankenstein is played by the Golden Globe award winner, Oscar Isaac meanwhile the monster is represented by Jacob Elordi.
