Ryan Reynolds has opened up about how he brought in Gwyneth Paltrow to help tech company Astronomer recover from a very public PR disaster.
For those unfamiliar, it all started in July when Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR exec Kristin Cabot were caught in an embrace on the kiss cam at Coldplay’s Boston concert.
The clip quickly went viral, with Chris Martin joking to the crowd that the pair might be having an affair.
Both Byron and Cabot soon left the company amid the fallout.
Just days later, she starred in a playful one-minute PSA, explaining what Astronomer actually does while adding a humorous twist.
“Just 14 hours later, I’m paying for that… but I knew nobody knew what Astronomer does. So I thought, ‘What if Gwyneth explained it?’” Reynolds said.
In the video, Paltrow, as a “temporary spokesperson,” answered questions from confused viewers with humour and charm, from endorsing Astronomer as “the best place to run Apache Airflow” to plugging upcoming events.
The lighthearted approach helped shift the spotlight back onto the company’s work.
Current CEO Pete DeJoy described the scandal as “unusual and surreal” but emphasised that Astronomer’s foundation remains strong.
Meanwhile, Byron sold his Tribeca mansion and moved to Massachusetts with his wife, Megan, who has returned to her maiden name.
A source close to Cabot stressed there was “no affair” and criticised the public backlash.
