Buckingham Palace has been embroiled in a fake news drama that prompted a clarification.

Pictures of an AI-generated marketplace outside the palace made rounds on social media.

The fake images compelled many to gather outside the Palace in London to witness the marketplace, which does not exist in real life.

After arriving outside the residence, people were disgruntled to find no such market, as per GB News.

“The fabricated images showed snow-dusted wooden chalets, twinkling fairy lights suspended overhead, and a towering Christmas tree positioned before the royal residence”, a report said.

The deceptive photographs of the festive market led many to gather outside the royal residence only to be left disappointed.

One of the visitors shared her dismay online writing “Just went! Was so disappointed. It's actually just their normal shop with Christmas decorations.”

The Royal Collection Trust later shared a statement to clarify the deception of the fake images.

The organisation clarified “Please note that the Royal Mews Christmas Shop is a pop-up shop selling Royal Collection Trust festive products within the existing Royal Mews shop space, and is not a Christmas market.”
