Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Chad A. Verdi’s Verdi Productions, and Danny Strong are teaming up for Oz, a documentary exploring the making of the iconic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

Tom Donahue, known for Mafia Spies and This Changes Everything, will helm the documentary, which is currently under production

Currently in production, Oz will take viewers behind the scenes of the legendary Hollywood classic, examining how its creation “tested the limits of its creators,” including director Victor Fleming and star Judy Garland.

The film will also explore how The Wizard of Oz has endured as a timeless cultural phenomenon.

“The Wizard of Oz remains deeply embedded in our culture, and its impact continues to resonate today,” DiCaprio said. “We’re fortunate to have the chance to tell the story, and to do it alongside Danny Strong, Chad Verdi, and the team at Verdi Productions.”

Donahue plans to incorporate never-before-seen footage and audio, capturing the challenges and triumphs of the production during the golden age of Hollywood.

The film, originally shot with a three-strip Technicolor 35mm camera, has inspired sequels, musicals, and the Broadway adaptation of Wicked

A newly remastered digital version was recently screened at the Sphere in Las Vegas, underscoring its enduring legacy.
