Jennifer Lawrence is gushing over Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest epic, One Battle After Another, calling it “the best movie I’ve ever seen.”
During the latest episode of BAFTA and Samsung’s BAFTA Playback, Lawrence revisited some of her own iconic roles, from Winter’s Bone to her latest, Die My Love, before sharing her reaction to Anderson’s action thriller.
Highlighting a tense scene where Leonardo DiCaprio struggles to remember a payphone password for a rendezvous, Lawrence said, “This is the best movie I’ve ever seen. This is One Battle After Another.”
The Oscar winner added that the cinema experience itself was unforgettable.
“I can’t remember a time when I ever had an experience like that in the cinema, and it was shared,” she said.
Lawrence recalled that after the movie ended, there was a huge round of applause in the audience, and she kept thanking her husband over and over because he was the one who booked the tickets two weeks in advance.
“I couldn’t say anything else other than thank you for that experience,” she said.
Anderson’s 2-hour-and-42-minute thriller follows a former revolutionary (DiCaprio) forced back into his combative past when he and his daughter (Chase Infiniti) are pursued by a corrupt military officer (Sean Penn). Critics have widely praised the film, and it’s already being tipped as an Oscar contender.
Lawrence urged fans to see it in theaters, noting its relentless pace and immersive storytelling.
“Anderson has so many characters inside of him,” she said, “and they’re all so visceral, so real. Every character, you know them, you see them, it’s alive, and you’re in it.”
