Rapper Tory Lanez has hit a major legal roadblock after a California appellate court upheld his 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in her feet five years ago.
Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, claimed multiple errors occurred during his trial, but the three-judge panel dismissed them all, calling any mistakes “harmless.”
The court acknowledged one minor error in jury instructions regarding a concealed firearm charge but said it didn’t affect the outcome.
Justices also confirmed Megan Pete’s injuries were “significant or substantial,” supported by her testimony and a surgeon’s account of bullet fragments removed from her feet.
The 33-year-old singer’s attempts to challenge evidence, including photos of his tattoos, social media posts, and his probation case in Florida, were all rejected.
Notably, the ruling also dismissed claims that prosecutors improperly influenced his former lawyer or limited his right to testify.
Justice Anne H. Egerton, with concurrence from Justices Lee Smalley Edmon and Rashida A. Adams, wrote the 46-page opinion, which is unpublished and cannot set new legal precedent.
The decision comes just a week before Megan’s Miami defamation trial, where she accuses an online commentator of working with Lanez’s circle to smear her.
Lady of Namek hitmaker’s legal team had hoped DNA testing and other evidence would overturn his conviction, but the appeal has now firmly closed that door.
Fans of the rapper and the star-studded courtroom drama are left watching closely as the saga continues, with Lanez facing over a decade behind bars.
