Actress sparked debate on July 23 after she starred in denim brand’s campaign
Sydney Sweeney, the rising Hollywood actress, has finally broken her silence on the viral controversy surrounding her work with American Eagle.
On Tuesday, November 4, The White Lotus star addressed the controversial campaign titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” for the first time during an interview with GQ.
On July 23, the denim company released the fall campaign, which sparked tension among the public and faced immense backlash for its messaging and tone.
In a recent interview, when the outlet asked Sweeney about her reaction to the outburst over the ad campaign, the Immaculate actress admitted she was surprised.
“I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans,” she said. “All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”
Moreover, the Euphoria star also reacted to the fact that President Donald Trump also spoke out about the jeans ad.
"It was surreal," Sweeney said, in reference to Trump's praise of the ad.
Four months ago, the ad sparked debate when audiences began to claim that the word “jeans” was used to imply “genes” and that there was a hint of racism and genetic superiority reference.
Amid the backlash, President Trump stood in support of Sweeney’s jeans campaign with the denim brand in August.
"She’s a registered Republican?” the president stated. “Oh, now I love her ad."
