A new report has revealed a stark contrast between the financial arrangements of Prince Edward and Prince Andrew when it comes to their royal residences.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE and The Times, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, has long paid market value rent for his Surrey home, Bagshot Park, unlike his brother Andrew, who reportedly paid no rent for two decades at his 30-room mansion, Royal Lodge.
The National Audit Office (NAO) report confirmed Edward leased Bagshot Park in 1998 for £90,000 (around $118,000) a year after renovations, later extending his lease to 150 years for roughly £5 million.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also contributed over £1.3 million toward refurbishments.
In contrast, Andrew’s Windsor estate was leased on a peppercorn rent, a token fee, after he paid £1 million for the lease and around £10 million for renovations.
