American actor Glen Powell experienced a stunt mishap while filming his new flick, The Running Man, a remake of the 1987 film.
On Friday, October 10, the Twisters actor shared some “little nerve-racking” stunts from the set while speaking with PEOPLE during New York Comic Con.
“There were a few explosions that hit me in the face,” he said, “and a fire extinguisher that exploded before it was supposed to, that definitely took me by surprise.”
According to IMDb, The Running Man reimagines the classic dystopian thriller, with Glen Powell stepping into the role of Ben Richards, once played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers on a brutal game show where contestants are hunted for sport, and Richards must stay alive to secure the prize that could save his sick daughter.
As per the movie’s synopsis, Powell definitely expected some action, and for him, it’s a good thing, as he enjoys “being surprised” in a role.
“I always try to keep myself surprised because that’s all the good stuff, you never want to be too surefooted on a set,” he added, while noting one specific scene where the audience can see his “authentic reactions” after falling “down the side of a building.”
“They let a cable loose a little before I thought it was going to be let loose,” he explained of the stunt accident, laughing. “If you fall even just a couple [of] feet down the side of a building when you’re not expecting it, it’s a little nerve-racking.”
As for his favorite stunts, Powell says jumping off an exploding bridge lingers in his memory, as does the movie’s “hand-to-hand combat.”
