What is Frankenstein 2025 about?

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a dark, emotionally rich reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic.

Set in 19th-century Europe, it follows Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant but emotionally distant scientist who creates a living being from body parts.

Jacob Elordi plays the creature, who starts off innocent and childlike but, after being abandoned and mistreated, struggles with isolation and searches for identity.

Mia Goth stars as Elizabeth Lavenza, whose relationships with Victor and the creature add depth to the story.

The film explores themes of creation, rejection, and the consequences of unchecked ambition, featuring del Toro’s signature gothic visuals and emotional storytelling.

It premiered in select theaters on October 17, 2025, and will be available on Netflix from November 7, 2025.
