Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially left their royal past behind, at least according to one royal expert.
The couple’s recent joint appearances in New York City, where they were honoured for their humanitarian work and attended mental health events, have reportedly cemented their transformation from royals to global celebrities.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond told The Mirror: “They are now full-blown celebrities,” Bond said. “And this award was for both of them, so it was natural that they make a joint appearance.”
The Sussexes’ trip to New York, where they spoke passionately about online safety and children’s mental health, coincided with Princess Kate’s essay on social media and mental wellbeing. But Bond insists there’s no competition between the two couples.
“The two princes and Catherine were involved in mental health issues before Meghan came along. It’s something they all care deeply about,” she explained.
“Both couples should be applauded, whether as royals or celebrities, for shining a light on such a vital cause.”
