Taylor Swift fans were left disappointed after reports detailed the reason why the Super Bowl halftime show deal fell through.
On his podcast, Naughty But Nice, Rob Shuter explained why the 35-year-old pop queen didn’t agree to perform at the halftime show.
He said, “They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure.’ Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure. She wanted a deal that reflected her value.”
The journalist described how Taylor wanted ownership of the NFL performance footage, like she owns all her masters, which would give her exclusive rights to benefit from the royalties whenever the show was aired in the future.
However, the NFL didn’t agree to her terms, and unfortunately, the deal fell through. Rob said, “The sense inside the industry is that the NFL fumbled the chance of a lifetime.”

In May 2025, Taylor announced she had purchased all of her masters for reportedly $360 million, which granted her the rights to sell, make, and distribute copies.
