Kate Middleton and Melania Trump struck up an unexpectedly close bond during their joint engagement at Frogmore House earlier this month, a palace insider has revealed.
The Princess of Wales and the First Lady of the United States teamed up to meet young Scouts as part of the Trump state visit, and royal watchers couldn’t help but notice how relaxed and chatty the pair seemed.
A Kensington Palace source confirmed to Hello! that the two women were “warm and friendly” and that Melania was “super relaxed” during the event.
“It’s definitely the start of what looks set to be a very warm, long-term relationship between Kate and Melania,” another source added.
The engagement was also a diplomatic win.
CNN anchor Max Foster noted how carefully the Palace had integrated Melania into the programme: “She wasn’t just treated as someone accompanying the President, she was treated as a guest in her own right.”
Both women coordinated their looks in autumnal Ralph Lauren pieces, while Chief Scout Dwayne Fields praised the outing as “heartwarming” and suggested a possible future collaboration between Kate and Melania for US-UK Scouts.
