Prince Andrew called 'smug' as he clashes with William at royal event

Prince William is said to be “furious” after Prince Andrew made an unexpected appearance at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral this week, sparking gasps from members of the public and fury within the Royal Family.

The Duke of York, 65, arrived at Westminster Cathedral alongside his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 64, despite not being expected at the service. 

While senior royals maintained a sombre tone during the emotional farewell, Andrew was photographed smiling and laughing.

According to royal author Andrew Lownie, the appearance felt like an “ambush” for Prince William, who has reportedly gone to great lengths to avoid being seen in public with his disgraced uncle. 

“William, meanwhile, was ‘furious’ at being ambushed in this way, according to friends,” he told the Daily Mail.

“He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him. He believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness and that Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the Royal Family.”

“Andrew is said to have been unwelcoming and rude to Kate when William was dating her – and William supposedly has never forgotten it,” he explained.
