Prince Harry, Meghan Markle bad news for King Charles after reunion

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “bad news” for the monarchy following Harry’s whirlwind trip back to the UK, where he met with his father, King Charles, at Clarence House.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, reunited with the monarch for a private tea after months of speculation, but notably did not see his brother Prince William or sister-in-law Princess Kate during the visit.

Richard Eden, Diary Editor at the Daily Mail, criticised the Sussexes’ role in royal life, telling Palace Confidential: “I can obviously understand the father wanting to meet the son, who wouldn’t? The problem is, he’s not just a father, he’s our head of state. I think Harry and Meghan are bad for the Royal Family.”

“I think Harry and Meghan are bad news,” he said. “We’ve seen time and time again that they exploit their royal connections, and I don’t think it’s paranoid to say that they want to be the alternative Royal Family.”

Harry, who quit royal duties in 2020 alongside Meghan, spent part of his UK visit at the WellChild Awards, a charity he has supported for years. Days later, he travelled to Kyiv, Ukraine, to advance his work with the Invictus Games Foundation.

But Eden suggested Harry’s timing was deliberate, arguing: “This week was full of engagements for William and Catherine, and Harry has been competing with that.”
