Kensington Palace has revealed that Kate Middleton will step out for two official visits next week, following her surprise appearance alongside Prince William on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
On Thursday, September 11, the Princess of Wales will tour two historic textile manufacturers: Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk and Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent.
In a statement, the Palace said the visits will “celebrate the unique skill, creativity and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers,” highlighting Kate’s long-standing passion for the UK’s fashion and design industries.
Sudbury Silk Mills has been a cornerstone of British jacquard weaving for over 300 years, while Marina Mill, established in 1967, has become renowned for its hand-designed and screen-printed furnishing fabrics.
Kate’s connection to textiles runs deep.
During a 2023 visit to A W Hainsworth mill in Yorkshire, she learned more about her family’s ties to the trade, her great-grandfather, Noel Middleton, played a role in selling the family business William Lupton & Co to the mill after more than 160 years in operation.
At the time, Kate couldn’t resist holding the freshly woven fabric, admitting: “I love the feel of it and the smell of it!”
The upcoming visits also coincide with Prince Harry’s UK trip, where he is attending charity events, including the WellChild Awards. Kate’s engagements are set to close out Harry’s four-day return.
