Mariah Carey, also known as the ‘Songbird Supreme’ for her crazy runs and impressive vocal range, has just bagged her first MTV VMAs win, alongside some good old fashioned hate from netizens.

The 6-time Grammy winner looked dazzling as she took the stage for the second time after performing a medley of her hits to accept the award from one of her greatest admirers, Ariana Grande.

As the Wicked star handed her Yes, and? collaborator the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the pair shared a loving interaction before the 56-year-old also praised Ariana at the beginning of her speech.

Mariah then addressed the career achievement award, saying “ Thank you, MTV for giving me the Vanguard Award. I can’t believe I’m getting my first VMA tonight.

“I just have one question. What in the Sam Hill were you waiting for?” she continued before recalling her iconic moments at the show from past years.

Meanwhile, the influential singer also had a diva moment this year, when she performed a medley of her songs Dreamlover, Heartbreaker, Obsessed, Like That and We Belong Together before receiving the honour.

Mariah’s performance has since been dragged by internet users with remarks like “Mariah don't be moving at all,” and many others calling her “stiff,” on stage.

Is Mariah Carey dropping a new album?

Yes Mariah’s 16th studio album Here for It All is slated to be released on September 26th, 2025.
